Here is a rare guitar - 34 years old, crack free, vintage look, in excellent condition, with a big and beautiful sound and still affordable.
This D-35 is all original except that the boring black pickguard that Martin used in that era has been professionally replaced by a cool, vintage looking pickguard. There is a very small area, less than 1/8" wide where the new pickguard doesn't quite cover all of where the old one was. See pictures below.
The top has mellowed to a nice warm color, as has some of the trim, making it look more like it's from the 50's or 60's. The wider grain is just beautiful. There is some light checking in the finish. There is one small ding on the high E string side of the lower bout. Other than that, the top looks fantastic.
The back and sides show very few signs of wear. Same with the back of the neck. It does not need a neck reset.
The fretboard is in excellent shape. There is a little wear on the first - fifth frets under the B string, but it's not much.
The distance from the bottom of the low E string to the top of the 12th fret is 9/64" and from the bottom of the high E string to the top of the 12ft fret is 7/64". Whether you fingerpick or strum, the action on this D-35 makes it easy to play.
The whole headstock is in just about perfect shape and the tuners work like new.
The bridge has an ever so slight crack between the A string and D string bridge pins. It is nearly invisable and so small that I almost didn't mention it, but I always want to error on the side of complete disclosure. Below is a close up. You can't see it in the other pictures because it is so small.
Inside the sound hole it looks like a brand new guitar.
It comes with it's original Martin light blue fiberglass case that is in great shape inside and out.
